Culturally responsive treatment and support for the whole family
Located in downtown Minneapolis, this program provides your family with:
St. David’s Center’s Autism Day Treatment uses a mental health approach with your child and family provided by an interdisciplinary team of therapists and family support staff who know the language and culture and community resources, and who care deeply about your experience of your services.
The staff—half of whom are East African—include mental health therapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and paraprofessionals.
In a small-group setting and with a school-like schedule filled with play and activities, the therapists focus on developing social interaction, communication, sensory processing, and self-regulation skills, while supporting you and your family with strategies you can use at home.
In 2011, with a Strategic Innovation Grant from the Medica Foundation, St. David’s Center and members of the Twin Cities East African community collaborated to design an innovative outreach and culturally responsive preschool day treatment model to educate the community and more effectively meet the needs of East African children with ASD and their families.
Intake for this program begins with a visit by an East African outreach staff.
